Client Review: Approve Before The Edit

September 21, 2026

Clients can now open a link, read the transcript, and approve the exact moments they want kept, before you build a single cut.

What it is

Client Review turns your transcript into something a client can act on directly. Instead of sending a rough cut and waiting for notes, you share a link. The client reads through the selected lines, sees the story you've arranged, and approves it right there. No account, no download, no software to learn.

You control what they see. A Presentation link shows only the polished Review page, nothing else, which is the right choice when you want a clean final approval rather than a working view. A regular review link can show more, depending on the permissions you've set for the project.

The problem it removes

Approvals used to happen after the edit, which meant redoing timeline work every time a client changed their mind about a moment. Client Review moves that decision earlier. The client is agreeing to the words and the story before anyone spends time cutting footage to match. Fewer surprises at the end, less rebuilding in the middle.

How it works in practice

Say you're cutting a panel discussion for a conference recap. You arrange the best answers in Review, then send the link. The client opens it, reads through the selects, and hits Approve. That approval locks the version for everyone, so there's no confusion about which cut is the agreed one. If your account allows notes on presentation links, they can also leave comments on specific lines without needing edit access.

You don't have to copy and paste the link into an email either. Open it and press Send, and it goes straight to the people listed on that client's Client kit, one message each, with your own note attached if you want one.

Who it helps

Anyone who needs sign-off before editing starts: agencies clearing quotes with a brand client, podcast producers confirming which answers make the final cut, documentary editors checking sensitive moments with a subject. If your workflow involves someone outside your edit bay saying yes before you commit hours to a timeline, this is built for that moment.

Keeping it on brand

If you're on ProAI, your logo and accent color carry into the Review page automatically, along with any PDF or email the client sees. You can even hide your logo entirely with White-Label Client Review if you want the page to look like it belongs to the client, not to you.

Managing links over time

Every review link you've sent lives in the Shared Links manager, so you can see what's out there and switch any of them off. If a client relationship ends, the Client access switch on their folder closes every link tied to them at once, review links, download links, folder links, all of it, without you having to hunt each one down.

Open ScriptCut and send your next client a link to approve instead of a cut to react to.

frequently asked questions

Client Review: Approve Before The Edit FAQs

Do I need a paid plan to send a client review link?

Yes. Sending a client a review link needs Starter or ProAI. On the Free plan, the Share button opens the plan picker instead.

What's the difference between a review link and a Presentation link?

A review link can show more of your workflow depending on project permissions, while a Presentation link shows only the polished Review page, which is best for a clean final approval.

What happens when a client approves a version?

Approving locks that version for everyone, so there's no confusion later about which cut was agreed on.

Can clients leave notes without approving?

On Presentation links, whether they can leave notes is a setting you control account-wide; turning it off still lets them read notes that are already there.

Do I have to copy and paste the link to send it?

No. Open the link and press Send, and it goes to everyone on that client's Client kit as individual messages, with an optional note from you.

Can I remove my logo from what the client sees?

Yes, if you're on ProAI. The White-Label Client Review toggle hides the logo header from the client review view entirely.

What if I need to cut off a client's access to everything at once?

The Client access switch on their folder closes every link tied to that client at once: review links, folder links, download links and approval links, and you can turn it back on later to restore them exactly as they were.
